SUMMERTIME IS HERE!

 

Summer is the perfect time to play, play, play! Enjoy the outdoors. Explore bugs, visit parks, view

rainbows, smell the flowers, jump in rain puddles! Enjoy your little ones and have a nice summer!

 

             

 

June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month!

 

 

 

 

Some suggestions from www.ChooseMyPlate.gov on how to enjoy fruits and vegetables include:

Try something new – look for fruits or vegetables that are uncommon in grocery stores or farmers markets. Have taste testing parties with your children!

Grow your own – Get the whole family involved with gardening. Start small if gardening is new to you.  You can plant a small garden in containers or in your yard.

Visit a farm – Taking the children to a farm where they can pick their own fruits or vegetables is a great adventure.

Once you have your fruits and vegetables, try new recipes. Many recipes can be found on line or make up your own. Be creative. If the child is involved in all or part of the process; planting, picking, preparing, they are more likely to try the fruit or vegetable.

 

 

Here is a couple of recipes you may want to try to get you started

 
 

Zucchini Boats

Cut zucchini lengthwise. With a spoon, scoop out the seeds. (kids would love doing this part!)  Add cooked ground beef, mixed with spaghetti sauce. ( you could also add on top any other vegetables you’d like) Top with mozzarella cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until the zucchini is softened. Enjoy!
 

   

Vegetable Pizza 

Roll out Pillsbury Crescent Rolls onto a cookie sheet. (kids would love this also!) Bake according to package. When cool, spread cream cheese over the crust. Add a variety of fresh vegetables (have your child pick which ones) and top with shredded cheddar cheese. Enjoy!
