Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. Purchase Provides Quality Transportation

Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. (BTHS) Transportation Coordinator, Chris Smith, believes it is important to keep the fleet of buses up to date. By continuing to improve the fleet of buses, Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. is providing quality, safe transportation to children enrolled in the Head Start program.

This past summer, the PA Head Start Supplemental Assistance Program grant funded two buses to be used to transport children, ages 3 to 5, to Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc’s. classrooms.  The 30-passenger 8 cylinder 6.0 liter gas powered Micro Bird school buses are equipped with many safety features including a child detection system, backup horn, backup sensors, an electric crossing arm  with "STOP" sign, and painted white roof, and heated cross view mirrors.  The two school buses were purchased from Brightbill Body Works out of Lebanon PA.  A competitive Request for Proposal was issued to several bus companies and Brightbill met all of the requirements and was rated the best in pricing, customer service, and past experience.

“Our funding sources provide us the opportunity to develop our budgets and by doing this we can determine where our needs are”, states BTHS Executive Director Jody Thomas.  “Purchasing buses supports our program's goal of providing safe transportation for children and meeting the needs of parents so it's a "win-win."
