August is recognized as “National Immunization Awareness Month”. It is an ideal time to make sure everyone is up-to-date on immunizations before heading back to school. It is also a good time to start thinking about getting a flu shot. Being immunized is an easy way to stay healthy all year round.

Bradford-Tioga Head Start encourages families to submit a copy of their child's immunizations as soon as they complete an application. This gives staff the opportunity to work with families to get their child's immunizations updated before the children come to class. It is important for children to be fully immunized. Diseases that can be prevented with vaccines can be very serious—even deadly—especially for infants and young children.

During the month of August, take the time to make sure that you and your loved ones have received all of the immunizations you need and schedule an appointment for a flu shot. By making sure your immunizations are up to date, you can help prevent harmful diseases from affecting you and your family.

For information and to see if you are up-to-date with your immunizations, visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website at: cdc.gov/vaccines/schedule
