Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. knows that  supporting children's school readiness is an ongoing partnership between staff and families. Along with Head Start, families play a critical role in helping their children be ready for school and for a lifetime of academic success. This is one of the main reasons that Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. classrooms like Elkland 1, hold monthly Parent Activity Days.

During a recent Elkland 1 parent activity day, the staff, children and families focused on family and friendship and incorporated one of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support  (PBIS) rules “Be Kind”. The activity was based on the concept that while every person is different, we all can fit together (like a puzzle) to work together. Children and parents were each given a puzzle piece to color and decorate. Then, together they worked to put all the pieces together.

Also during parent activity days, classroom staff are encouraged to include a fine motor activity that can also be done at home. During the month of February, the Elkland 1 children and  families made play-dough using simple ingredients like cornstarch and hair conditioner. Once the dough was made, everyone had fun using their imaginations to create and explore!
