NOVEMBER IS CHILD SAFETY AND PROTECTION MONTH

Did you know that November is Child Safety & Protection Month? Initiated to create awareness about the potential dangers our children face every day, this month is a good reminder for everyone parents and caregivers, as well as educators and students of the importance of keeping our children safe at all times. The safety of our children is something that we should always be vigilant about. As children grow and change, they require different levels of protection and November, Child Safety and Protection Month, is a good reminder for us to check the safety and protection devices and plans we have in place for our children.

Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. (BTHS) acknowledges that child safety is important at home as well as at school. While attending class, children are taught about safety through a Positive Behavior Instructional Support program (PBIS). Beginning on their first day in the classroom, children are taught "Be Safe". They learn what being safe looks like and can earn red stars by "being safe".

Bradford Tioga Head Start Inc. supports families in the health and safety of their children as well as by providing resources to assist families in making their home a safe place for their family. During the month of November, each parent will receive a Child Safety Pocket Slider. The Pocket Slider provides safety tips for parents and children on topics such as calling for help, never talking to strangers, child proofing the home, pet safety and computer safety. It also includes a list of supplies to include in a first aid kit. Parents are encouraged to do a safety inspection of their home and to create a first aid kit.

It is the goal of Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. and Child Safety and Protection Month to bring awareness about the potential dangers children face every day. By having programs like PBIS that teach children about safety and providing Head Start parents with trainings on the subject, BTHS is encouraging everyone to be proactive when it comes to safety. A little pre-planning can go a long way to keeping children safe!
