TIOGA COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT STAFF VISIT

BRADFORD-TIOGA HEAD START, INC. CLASSROOM

Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. encourages all of its classrooms to host activities with outside agencies! So when the Tioga County Conservation District (TCCD) wanted to visit the Blossburg 1 classroom it was exciting news.

During the visit, children were introduced to the “Trout Grow on Trees” environmental education program. Through this effort, children are taught about the connection between healthy forests, healthy streams and healthy trout populations. TCCD brought several types of macro invertebrates (water bugs) to the classroom for children to observe and identify. They even provided special bug viewers and lighted magnifying screens for everyone to use so that the children could identify the bugs and their parts.

Tioga County Conservation District staff also shared a water cycle book with the children and showed them how to create a water cycle bracelet!  When everyone was done with the projects, the TCCD staff lead the children in a special drawing project. “This activity showed the children and their families how different things are all connected and effect each other”, said Blossburg 1 Family Advocate Brandy Massey. “The children AND adults were both very excited after the visit. And that’s what it’s all about!”
