Pretty Pictures from Puffy Paint

Are you searching for a really fun activity to do with your pre-school aged child? Making and using puffy paint might be just what you are looking for!

Making and using puffy paint offers a child many learning opportunities; from measuring and mixing the ingredients which develops fine motor skills to making fun creations which develops the creative mind. Elkland Family Partner, Robin Flynn, took all of this into account when she planned this family fun activity for one of her recent home visits. “We made our own puff paint and the family made pictures”, says Robin. “Each family member created several masterpieces and had fun helping each other”!

But what is puffy paint? Puffy paint can come in many different varieties, as there are at least a dozen different recipes on the internet. Family Partners with Bradford-Tioga Early Head Start use this recipe:

3 cups of shaving cream

1 cup of flour

1 cup of glue

Food coloring of our choice

·         Measure and mix together the shaving cream, flour and glue.

·         Divide the mixture into 3 or 4 small bowls and add different food colors

·         Scoop each mixture into a zip lock baggie, snip the corner and squeeze

Next time you need a child-friendly activity, try Puffy Paint. It offers playing, learning, creating. That’s what it’s all about!
