Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. Children Eat Green Eggs

The Elkland 1 classroom of Bradford Tioga Head Start recently celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday in style: with green eggs and ham and a reading of the story “Green Eggs and Ham” by their foster grandma, Grandma Evelyn.

After the story, the children got a chance to make their own green eggs. Every student was given a job to help make the snack. Teamwork and responsibility to the group was encouraged! While some students cracked an egg into the bowl, others stirred the eggs so they would be ready to scramble. With all of her “green eggs” experience, Grandma Evelyn was a great help! Elkland 1 teacher, Miss Olivia put a special ingredient in the bowl to turn the eggs green and then she cooked the eggs. This was a great example for the children to show them what can be accomplished when everyone helps!

Every student tried the eggs despite the green color. Most of the children liked the eggs and asked for seconds! A few were afraid to try green eggs, but they were encouraged to be brave! Soon they figured out that green eggs taste just like scrambled eggs at home! Eggs they would eat in a box with a fox, in a house with a mouse or on a train in the rain. And perhaps even here, there and everywhere!
