Blossburg Head Start Classroom Holds Family Literacy Night

The Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. school year is winding down. It’s time for celebrating all of the great things that have happened throughout the year. For the Blossburg Head Start classroom, this occurred during their recent Family Literacy Night.

The event was held at the Victoria Theater in Blossburg. Owners, Tom and Tonya McNamara were the perfect hosts! They worked alongside the classroom staff to make sure parents, grandparents, extended family and community members had a spectacular evening! Even providing popcorn to everyone who attended.

The curtain went up at exactly 6PM when the Master of ceremonies, Tom Matczak announced the start. It began with the children retelling and enacting this year’s PA One Book “Daniel Finds a Poem”. The performance was narrated by Ingrid Dalton, a Blossburg Head Start parent and each child had a speaking part. The children were dressed in costumes created by Sandy Kling of Mansfield PA.

Following the main event, the class performed “Going on a Bear Hunt” with music and words created by Thomas Dalton, another Blossburg parent. The bear was played by parent, Grant Messner. The event concluded with the children getting audience participation in singing the song POP SEE KO!

Said Teacher Mary Wickman, “It is always so special to see the children and families grow throughout the year. And seeing this year’s children perform for over 100 guests was truly a pleasure!”
