Bradford Tioga Head Start Celebrates Veterans!

When you think of November and holidays, the first one that comes to mind for most people, is Thanksgiving. However, there is another holiday that should get as much, if not more recognition – Veteran’s Day! So what is Veterans Day? It is a holiday of remembrance to honor those who have served our country. And it is a great time to teach young children about things like patriotism, freedom, pride and love for our country and respect for the men and women who have gone into the military to protect us and our way of life.

To teach her preschool-aged class, Athens 3 Head Start teacher, Casey Williams invited Staff Sargent Jamie Newcomb to visit the Athens 3 classroom on Veterans Day, November 11th. He talked to the children about the type of jobs he does in the National Guard. In return, the children asked him lots of questions about his uniform, tanks, and what it is like to be a soldier.

Bradford Tioga Head Start would like to thank Staff Sargent Jamie Newcomb – for visiting and sharing with the Athens 3 children; for being a role model of patriotism and sacrifice; and for his willingness to protect the United States of America and its freedoms.
